(May 1, 2025) - Heartland Film is proud to announce that Alamo Drafthouse Cinema at The Square is the presenting sponsor of the 2025 Heartland International Film Festival (HIFF), which is scheduled to run October 9-19, 2025. In addition to being the presenting sponsor, Alamo Drafthouse Cinema will host many of the festival's screenings and events.
The Indianapolis Alamo Drafthouse Cinema opened on November 18, 2024 at The Square (3898 Lafayette Rd., Indianapolis, IN 46254). For the last two decades, Alamo Drafthouse Cinema has provided the best cinematic experience in the world. Its newest Indy location has 13 screens, 4k projection in select auditoriums, an arcade, a private screening room and locally-sourced food and drinks.
“We’re committed to building a unique and colorful neighborhood—and today marks a major milestone in that journey: Alamo Drafthouse Cinema at The Square will serve as the primary venue for the 2025 Heartland International Film Festival,” said Fabio De La Cruz, CEO of Sojos Capital. “Together, we’ll showcase the power of cinema, strengthen community connections and make The Square a true destination for film lovers.”
"Indianapolis is incredibly fortunate to have this beautiful new theater that's name is synonymous with showcasing independent film at the highest quality," said Michael Ault, President of Heartland Film. "I'm excited for the Heartland International Film Festival's attendees and filmmakers to experience Alamo Drafthouse Cinema's commitment to exceptional pictures, sound, atmosphere, food and drinks."
Alamo Drafthouse Cinema at The Square stands apart from other theaters through a unique blend of high-end amenities and a deep respect for the moviegoing experience. The theater enforces a strict no-talking, no-texting policy to ensure every screening is immersive and uninterrupted. Guests can enjoy an elevated dining experience with chef-inspired menus and a made-from-scratch kitchen, with food and drinks delivered silently during the film. Each of the 13 auditoriums features stadium seating, heated full recliners and individual tables for maximum comfort. Equipped with state-of-the-art projection and Dolby surround sound, Alamo delivers a cinematic experience that rivals any in the country.
"The Heartland International Film Festival was named one of the Top 25 Coolest Film Festivals in the World by MovieMaker Magazine in 2023 and 2024. It only makes sense that HIFF would team up with Alamo Drafthouse Cinema, which Wired named the Coolest Theater in the World," said Greg Sorvig, Artistic Director of Heartland Film.
This year marks the 34th Heartland International Film Festival. The festival will host screenings at theaters across the Indianapolis area, including Alamo Drafthouse Cinema, from October 9-19. Many of the films will also be available to watch virtually. Attendees can expect to see more than 100 independent feature films which include world premieres, blockbuster sneak peeks and Indiana films. The tickets and film lineup will be available on September 18 at HeartlandFilm.org.
